Drop Mode – How to Add and Use the Drop Mode Field
Configure your orders to specify delivery methods like Sideloader, Drop & Pick, or Live Unload with the Drop Mode field.
What is Drop Mode?
The Drop Mode field in TCMS is used to indicate how a container or freight is to be delivered or collected from a site. It’s particularly useful for Full Container Load (FCL) deliveries and heavy freight jobs, where specific equipment or handling methods are required.
By specifying the drop mode, you help ensure the carrier knows what type of equipment is needed to successfully complete the delivery or collection.
Common Drop Mode Types
Here are some frequently used Drop Modes and what they mean:
-
Sideloader – A truck with a side-mounted crane that places the container on the ground. Ideal when the delivery site has no loading dock or equipment.
-
Drop and Pick – The container is dropped off and collected later after unloading. Suitable for sites that need time to unpack.
-
Live Unload – The driver stays onsite while the container is immediately unloaded. The truck then departs with the empty container.
-
Tail Lift – A hydraulic lift (liftgate) helps lower goods to the ground, common in general freight.
-
Crane Required – A crane is needed at the delivery site to unload the container or cargo.
